Who is Alan Curtis?

Swansea City have announced caretaker boss Alan Curtis will remain in charge of the Premier League club for the rest of the season.

The 61-year-old took charge after Garry Monk was sacked on 9 December.

Former Swans player Curtis has since led the side to one win, two draws and two defeats in five games, including three clean sheets.

Swansea lie 17th in the table, two points above the relegation zone, after Saturday's loss at Manchester United.
'Players have responded to him'

In a statement, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins said: "We have all been impressed with the way he has improved performance levels over the last five games.

"The players have obviously responded to him because we have seen an uplift in performances.

"I know some people will query why we didn't have a replacement lined up when we parted company with Garry Monk, but we didn't expect to be in the situation we were in when you look at our position mid-September."
Who is Alan Curtis?

Curtis has been associated with Swansea City since 1972, and played more than 400 games for the club in three spells.

He also played for Leeds United and Southampton, as well as Swansea's rivals Cardiff City.

After making 35 appearances for Wales, he rejoined the Swans as a coach.

He was caretaker manager in 2004 and has since worked under the likes of Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup.

The two Brazilian teenagers used to spend about a third of their day on screens, but for them it has more than paid off. And while there are plenty of internet entrepreneurs that start young, their story stands out.

Now aged 19, they already have a successful start-up, Pagar.me, that employs 30 people and has a multimillion-dollar annual turnover, with scholarships to Stanford University to boot.

When Henrique was 12, he was a big fan of the Korean multi-player online game Ragnarok. As his parents did not want to pay for its premium features, he started programming them himself: "I used to make my own servers so I did not have to pay for the original version miris spa."

He subsequently worked out how to make real money on the game through the extra skills he had. At first his parents were a bit shocked, concerned he might be gambling online.

Co-founder Pedro Franceschi started even younger, tinkering with software from the age of ninemiris spa.

you are a sweet-smelling diamon

What about something more creative and ineffable, like music? Machines can fool us there too. There is now a music-composing computer called Iamus, which produces work sophisticated enough to be deemed worthy of attention by professional musicians. Iamus’s developer Francisco Vico of the University of Malaga and his colleagues carried out a kind of Turing Test by asking 250 subjects – half of them professional musicians – to listen to one of Iamus’s compositions and music in a comparable style by human composers, and decide which is which. “The computer piece raises the same feelings and emotions as the human one, and participants can’t distinguish them”, says Vico. “We would have obtained similar results by flipping coinsreenex

Some say that computer poetry has passed the test too, though one can’t help thinking that this says more about the discernment of the judges. Consider the line: “you are a sweet-smelling diamond architecturereenex

Then there’s the “Turing touch test”. Turing himself claimed that even if a material were ever to be found that mimicked human skin perfectly, there was little reason to try to make a machine more human by giving it artificial flesh. Yet the robot Ava in Ex Machina clearly found it Picosecond

Jawbone is seeking compensation

The lawsuit accuses Fitbit of poaching staff, stealing intellectual property and confidential trade data.

Former Jawbone staff used USB storage devices to take data to Fitbit, the San Francisco lawsuit alleges.

Earlier this month Fitbit, which makes wearable devices that record health data, launched its first share sale in which it hopes to raise $100m (£65m).

The company plans to list shares on the New York Stock Exchange.

Fitbit reported sales of almost $340m in the first quarter of this year, triple the same period in 2014.

Jawbone's lawsuit names Fitbit and five former Jawbone employees. Jawbone also believes 10 other former staff were involved.

The case says that a recruiter from Fitbit contacted 30% of Jawbone's staff. Both companies are based in San Francisco.

Jawbone is seeking compensation wants to prevent former employees from disclosing any other commercially sensitive information.

Fitbit did not respond to a BBC request for its reaction to the lawsuit, but the company is in a quiet period in the run-up to its share sale.

planting heroin in her luggage.

Mary Jane Veloso's execution was postponed after the Indonesian government agreed to let her testify in the case of the woman she has accused of planting heroin in her luggage.

Maria Kristina Sergio turned herself in to the police unexpectedly this week and has been taken to the capital, Manila, for investigations.

A French man, Serge Areski Atlaoui, remains on death row. He has an outstanding legal complaint over his request for clemency.

France has said it is "fully mobilised" on his case.

Indonesia has some of the toughest drug laws in the world and ended a four-year moratorium on executions in 2013.

It says it takes a hard line because of the country's own drugs problem - 33 Indonesians die every day as a result of drugs, according to Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency.絵描きとか舞台俳

Tim Clark, the chief executive of Emirates, who is one of the A380's biggest fans and has ordered 140 of them says: "There is a degree of risk-averseness on the board of many carriers today.reenex 價錢

"They are concerned about the price of this aeroplane, its operation, being able to fill the aeroplane."

The main use for the A380 is on busy routes or into crowded airports like London's Heathrow where landing slots are at a premium, and the only way of flying in more passengers is to use bigger planesreenex cps.

However, for most of the world's airports, landing slots are not an issue.

"In the rest of the world, a twin-engined aircraft is enough," says Tom Whitty, chief executive of UK-based remarketing company Cabot Aviation, which sells and leases second-hand aircraft around the globe.

"Very large four-engined aircraft are going out of fashion, unless you are a national flag-carrier like British Airways or Emirates."

"Certainly in the used-market, they are too big and too thirsty in fuel."保濕精華

The villagers say they also killed some of their animals.

They are said to have killed domestic animals and taken cooking pots and other metal goods.

No-one was injured, but police say it is safer for villagers to move to a bigger town.

This is the third time this year that the Mashco-Piro Indians have arrived in Monte Salvador searching for food and metal objects.

But last Thursday they came while most of the villagers were away and ransacked their homes before retreating into the forest.

The villagers say they also killed some of their animals.

Two days later, the Mashco-Piro Indians returned and the villagers fled.

The Peruvian police are sending boats to take them to Puerto Maldonado, a busy town in south-eastern Peru near the borders with Bolivia and Brazil.

A local indigenous organisation (Fenamed) has asked the government to protect the Mashco-Piro's land, much of which has been taken over by logging concessions and drug-traffickers.

Philae has gone into standby because of low power

Carbon-containing "organics" are the basis of life on Earth and may give clues to chemical ingredients delivered to our planet early in its history.

The compounds were picked up by a German-built instrument designed to "sniff" the comet's thin atmosphere.

Other analyses suggest the comet's surface is largely water-ice covered with a thin dust layer.

The European Space Agency (Esa) craft touched down on the Comet 67P on 12 November after a 10-year journey.拉菲紅酒

Dr Fred Goessmann, principal investigator on the Cosac instrument, which made the organics detection, confirmed the find to BBC News. But he added that the team was still trying to interpret the results.

It has not been disclosed which molecules have been found, or how complex they are.

There's a trade off - once it gets too hot, Philae will die as well. There is a sweet spot”

Prof Mark McCaughrean Senior science adviser, Esa

But the results are likely to provide insights into the possible role of comets in contributing some of the chemical building blocks to the primordial mix from which life evolved on the early Earth.

Preliminary results from the Mupus instrument, which deployed a hammer to the comet after Philae's landing, suggest there is a layer of dust 10-20cm thick on the surface with very hard water-ice underneath.

The ice would be frozen solid at temperatures encountered in the outer Solar System - Mupus data suggest this layer has a tensile strength similar to sandstone.门禁系统公司

"It's within a very broad spectrum of ice models. It was harder than expected at that location, but it's still within bounds," said Prof Mark McCaughrean, senior science adviser to Esa, told BBC News.

"People will be playing with [mathematical] models of pure water-ice mixed with certain amount of dust."

Philae has gone into standby because of low power

He explained: "You can't rule out rock, but if you look at the global story, we know the overall density of the comet is 0.4g/cubic cm. There's no way the thing's made of rock.

"It's more likely there's sintered ice at the surface with more porous material lower down that hasn't been exposed to the Sun in the same way."

After bouncing off the surface at least twice, Philae came to a stop in some sort of high-walled trap.

dark slides as opposed to glass plates.

One of those owners was Jim Archer, a Fleet Street photographer. His grandson Luke is now the proud owner of a 100-year-old Thornton Pickard Royal Ruby camera from the studio of Alexander Bassano.

The camera was one of many items stored in an old building that Archer says was at one time full of camera equipment. He adds that sadly much was sold off many years ago. Yet this camera remained, kept by his mother as she thought the brass and wood looked too good to part with.

The photography bug must be in the genes as Luke Archer took up the camera, and for his final degree piece at university decided to stand in the footsteps of his grandfather and Bassano and put the camera to use once more.純中藥外敷療程

The camera itself had been modified over the years to meet the demands of the moment, including changes to allow it to take a modern tripod, and dark slides as opposed to glass plates.

Of course a suitable subject was required, and to maintain that link to the past, Archer photographed hereditary peers whose ancestors were photographed at the Bassano studio. "Like me they have inherited something that has impacted on their lives," says Archer.

"The project aims through portraiture to document the hereditary peers as a class within society. It may well document the last generation who sit in the House of Lords."

Some of the pictures were taken at Parliament, others in the homes of the lords themselves.
